Jammu, Feb 09: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday directed the Jammu and Kashmir Police to act decisively against terrorism and work in close coordination with all sections of society to completely dismantle terror networks in the Union Territory.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament at KK Hakku Hockey Stadium in Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said that the police force’s unbreakable resolve sends a strong message to the nation. “Adversity will not crack our spirit. We will cross every barrier to achieve new milestones as we move forward,” he asserted.

The Lieutenant Governor paid rich tributes to the brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the service of the nation, stating that their sacrifice must always remain etched in public memory. He observed that true tributes to martyrs do not fade with time but continue to inspire future generations. “Our martyrs embodied the highest ideals of duty and self-sacrifice. It is our collective responsibility to pass on these values and build strong character among the youth,” he said.

Highlighting the role of the J&K Police’s Civic Action Programme, LG Sinha commended the force for empowering young people and strengthening bonds with the community. “The Civic Action Programme is not merely a government initiative; it reflects a mindset that lasting peace emerges from mutual trust. Security is strengthened through relationships and community participation,” he added.

The Lieutenant Governor also called upon every section of society to unite in the fight against drug abuse. Reiterating the administration’s commitment to a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, he said the Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament symbolises this collective resolve.

Reaffirming the UT administration’s focus on youth empowerment, LG Sinha said the government and police are committed to creating opportunities for young people, providing platforms for talent, and ensuring that youthful energy is channelled in a positive direction.

The hockey tournament, being held after a gap of more than a decade, will feature 14 teams from across the region.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat; Special DG (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani; Commandant General Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF Abdul Ghani Mir; ADGP Armed Police Anand Jain; senior officials of the J&K Police and civil administration, members of hockey associations, and eminent sports personalities.
