New Delhi, Feb 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed Seva Teerth building complex in the national capital, describing it as a milestone in India’s administrative transformation and a decisive move away from colonial-era legacies.
Delivering his first address from Seva Teerth, the Prime Minister said the new infrastructure reflects the aspirations of a modern and self-confident India. “Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhawans are built to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of Indians, not of any monarch,” he remarked after also inaugurating Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2.
Calling February 13 a historic day in India’s development journey, Modi said the inauguration marks “a new beginning” aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat. He urged officers and staff working in the new premises to reflect daily on whether their work makes life easier for citizens, emphasising service-oriented governance.
Seva Teerth brings together the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat under one roof, consolidating offices that were earlier functioning from multiple locations. Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 house several major ministries, including Finance, Defence, Health and Family Welfare, Corporate Affairs, Education, Culture, Law and Justice, Information and Broadcasting, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Chemicals and Fertilizers, and Tribal Affairs.
The Prime Minister also noted that the historic South Block and North Block were constructed during British rule with the intent of consolidating colonial control, underscoring that the new complexes symbolise a shift towards governance rooted in service, efficiency and national pride.
The inauguration of Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavans is being seen as a significant step in the ongoing Central Vista redevelopment, aimed at modernising India’s administrative infrastructure while aligning it with contemporary needs and national aspirations.
