Examiner Bureau | Srinagar, Feb 18:
Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam on Wednesday officially announced that the Ramadan crescent moon has been sighted in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, clearing uncertainty among residents awaiting confirmation after Maghrib prayers.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Grand Mufti said that credible testimonies confirming the moon sighting were received from multiple districts and subsequently verified by the official moon-sighting committee.

“With the crescent sighted this evening, the first day of fasting will be observed on Thursday,” he stated.

The committee, which includes Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, confirmed the development after cross-verification of reports to ensure accuracy and authenticity.

With the formal announcement, Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir will begin observing the holy month of Ramadan from Thursday, marking the start of a period devoted to fasting, prayer, reflection, and charity.
