Shantmanu Sworn in as J&K State Election Commissioner at Lok Bhavan

Manoj Sinha on Saturday administered the oath of office to Shantmanu as the State Election Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir at a formal ceremony held at Lok Bhavan.

The oath-taking ceremony, marked by solemnity and high-level attendance, was witnessed by prominent dignitaries and senior officials of the Union Territory. Following the administration of the oath, Shantmanu formally assumed charge as the State Election Commissioner, taking on the responsibility of overseeing electoral processes at the local body level in Jammu and Kashmir.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Abdur Rahim Rather, members of the Council of Ministers, the Chief Secretary, and the Director General of Police, among other senior civil and police officials.

The presence of the top political and administrative leadership underscored the significance of the constitutional office and the government’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions in the Union Territory.

As State Election Commissioner, Shantmanu will be responsible for supervising and conducting elections to Panchayats, Municipalities and other local bodies, ensuring that the electoral process remains free, fair and transparent.

The appointment is seen as an important step towards reinforcing grassroots democracy and institutional accountability in Jammu and Kashmir.
