Examiner Bureau | Jammu:

Two terrorists affiliated with the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed on Sunday in an encounter in the remote Chatroo area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The gunfight broke out around 10:30 am in the general area of Passerkut in the Chatroo belt after security forces launched a joint search operation based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of two Pakistani terrorists in the region.

According to officials, joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) moved into the area to track down the militants. Contact was established soon after, leading to a fierce exchange of fire in the difficult and forested terrain.

An Army spokesperson said the troops displayed “tactical precision, seamless synergy and resolute aggression” while dominating the encounter site and successfully neutralising both terrorists. War-like stores, including two AK-47 rifles, were recovered from the site of the encounter.

Confirming the operation in a post on X, the White Knight Corps said the action was launched under ‘Operation Trashi-I’ following credible intelligence inputs gathered from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Intelligence Bureau, and other sources.

“Following successful contact established earlier, troops of CIF Delta, in close coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, re-engaged the terrorists at approximately 11:00 AM in challenging terrain,” the post said, adding that the operation was carried out with high levels of coordination and determination.

The Corps further stated that the operation remains ongoing, asserting that those attempting to disturb peace in the region will not find sanctuary.

Security forces have intensified search operations in the surrounding areas to ensure there are no additional militants present.
