Examiner Bureau | Anantnag:
A series of unexplained fish deaths at the historic Sheerbagh Spring has triggered concern among residents over the past few days, with locals suspecting rising water pollution as the likely cause.

The spring, known for its cultural and environmental significance in Anantnag, has reportedly witnessed multiple fish carcasses floating on the surface, alarming the community and raising questions about the condition of the water body.

To assess the situation, Fisheries Department Project Officer Mohammad Yaseen visited the site and initiated preliminary measures. Officials confirmed that water samples have been collected and sent to a laboratory for detailed analysis. As a precautionary step, medicines were also administered into the water to prevent further damage.

According to authorities, the spring flows through a drainage channel where a latrine outlet merges, while instances of household waste being dumped into the water have also been reported. These factors are believed to be adversely affecting water quality.

Officials have urged the public to refrain from polluting natural water bodies and to cooperate in preserving the region’s fragile ecosystem. Further action is expected once laboratory reports confirm the exact cause of the fish deaths.
