Jammu and Kashmir scripted history on Saturday by winning their maiden Ranji Trophy title, outclassing eight-time champions Karnataka cricket team in a dominant final at the KSCA Stadium.

J&K sealed the crown on the basis of a massive 291-run first-innings lead, eventually stretching their overall advantage to 633 runs after finishing at 342 for 4 in the second innings on the final day. Opener Qamran Iqbal remained unbeaten on 160, while Sahil Lotra struck his maiden first-class century with an unbeaten 101, underlining the visitors’ supremacy.

The triumph marks a watershed moment for the side, which made its Ranji debut 67 years ago and had previously fallen short in the quarterfinals on multiple occasions. This time, however, J&K displayed tactical discipline and composure, overwhelming a Karnataka side packed with international experience.

Pacer Auqib Nabi once again starred with the ball, claiming his seventh five-wicket haul of the season. Skipper Paras Dogra crossed the landmark of 10,000 Ranji runs, while key contributions from Yawer Hassan, Abdul Samad, and Kanhaiya Wadhawan reflected a collective team effort.

From an early-season setback to Mumbai to a stirring semifinal comeback against Bengal, J&K’s campaign was defined by resilience and belief. The title was formally secured at 2:10 pm when both captains agreed to shake hands, sparking jubilant celebrations in the J&K camp.

The victory is being hailed as a landmark achievement for cricket in the region, with hopes that it will inspire a new generation of players and usher in stronger sports infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
