Examiner Bureau | Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday held an interaction with religious leaders and members of civil society in Srinagar to deliberate on the evolving situation in West Asia following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a reported US-Israel airstrike.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on X, the participants conveyed deep concern over the developments in the region and expressed condolences over the loss of lives in Iran.
During the meeting, Abdullah underscored the need to preserve peace and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir. While acknowledging the sense of grief among the people, he stressed that expressions of mourning should remain peaceful and responsible.
“Expressions of grief and mourning must remain peaceful and responsible,” the Chief Minister said, reiterating the administration’s commitment to maintaining stability in the Union Territory.
The gathering concluded with a ‘Fatiha’ (special prayer) for the late Ayatollah Khamenei and others who lost their lives in the recent military strikes. Participants prayed for peace and voiced hope for stability in the region.
The outreach comes amid heightened sensitivities, with the administration emphasising restraint and collective responsibility to ensure law and order across Jammu and Kashmir.
