Examiner Bureau | Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday met a delegation of law students who have been demanding the establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in Jammu, with the Chief Minister seeking around 10 days to examine the proposal.
According to student representatives, Abdullah assured them that the matter would be taken forward and expressed optimism about a positive outcome. He reportedly conveyed his support for setting up an NLU in Jammu, similar to the one proposed for Kashmir, while highlighting the need to carefully assess financial implications.
“The Chief Minister told us that the proposal would require Cabinet discussion and clarity on budget allocation, for which he needs some time,” a student representative said after the meeting.
The students said the Chief Minister emphasised a thorough evaluation of funding arrangements before taking a final decision. They expressed hope that the long-standing demand for a National Law University in Jammu would soon be fulfilled.
The demand has gained momentum in recent months, with student groups and several organisations advocating for the expansion of higher legal education infrastructure in the Jammu region.
