Kishtwar, Feb 09: Security forces have intensified search-and-cordon operations in the Chatroo area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district under the ongoing counter-terror operation, Operation Trashi-I, which has been underway for over 20 days.
According to the Army’s White Knight Corps, contact was re-established with terrorists on the run on Sunday evening during a joint operation involving troops of CIF Delta White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF. The encounter took place around 5:45 pm in the general area of Dichhar, Kishtwar, amid dense forests and difficult terrain.
“In the continuing search and elimination of terrorists in the Kishtwar region, contact was re-established with terrorists on the run during the ongoing joint Operation Trashi-I,” the White Knight Corps said in a post on X, adding that one terrorist has been successfully neutralised. The operation, officials said, is still in progress.
Operation Trashi-I has witnessed multiple contacts with terrorists hiding in the forested belts of Chatroo, as security forces continue sustained efforts to eliminate the remaining militants and restore complete security in the region.
Earlier, on January 19, the Army paid last tributes to Havildar Gajendra Singh, a Special Forces soldier who laid down his life while gallantly executing a counter-terror operation in the Singhpora area of Chatroo during the intervening night of January 18 and 19.
Paying homage, the White Knight Corps said the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and all ranks saluted the supreme sacrifice of Havildar Gajendra Singh, remembering his indomitable courage, valour, and selfless devotion to duty. The Army also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family during their time of grief.
Security forces have reiterated their resolve to continue the operation until the area is fully sanitised, while further details are awaited as the situation develops.
