Examiner Bureau | Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged the public to remain calm and not fall prey to rumours regarding a shortage of essential commodities, asserting that there is no scarcity of petrol, diesel, or LPG in the Union Territory.
Addressing concerns over long queues at fuel stations, the Chief Minister said the administration has thoroughly reviewed the situation and confirmed that supplies remain stable. He expressed concern that misinformation, particularly on social media, is causing unnecessary panic among people.
“It is unfortunate that people tend to believe rumours instead of official statements. There is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG cylinders. The situation has remained unchanged over the past few days,” he said.
Abdullah appealed to citizens to avoid crowding petrol pumps, warning that panic-driven behaviour could disrupt normal supply mechanisms. “I request people not to queue up at fuel stations based on rumours. If such situations continue, we may be compelled to temporarily shut some petrol pumps to maintain order,” he cautioned.
He further added that the central government is closely monitoring the evolving situation and ensuring uninterrupted availability of essential supplies across the country. Reassuring the public, he emphasized that there is no cause for concern and advised people to rely only on verified and official information.
