In compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Court, Anantnag Police on Monday destroyed a large quantity of seized narcotic and psychotropic substances at Lassipora in Pulwama district.
The disposal process was carried out in a secure and transparent manner under the supervision of a duly constituted committee, strictly following legal procedures and prescribed norms. Officials said the move reflects the police’s continued commitment to tackling drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
A total of 1,084.89 kilograms of contraband substances were destroyed. These included significant quantities of poppy straw (761.52 kg), charas (28.486 kg), fukki (42.96 kg), bung boosa (212.014 kg), ganja (12.100 kg), and a small quantity of brown sugar. In addition, psychotropic substances such as codeine, codeine phosphate bottles, and tramadol tablets and capsules were also disposed of.
The seized materials were linked to multiple cases registered across the district and were destroyed following due legal sanction.
Officials said the large-scale destruction sends a strong message of zero tolerance against narcotics and highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks. The police reiterated their resolve to protect the youth and society from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Anantnag Police has urged the public to continue cooperating by sharing information related to drug peddling and related activities, emphasising that community support remains crucial in building a drug-free society.
