The web series Matka King is generating significant buzz in the film industry following its OTT release, with leading actors and filmmakers sharing positive reactions on social media.
After premiering on Amazon Prime Video on April 17, the series has drawn appreciation from prominent names including Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar.
Aamir Khan, through a note shared by his production house, congratulated the team and expressed interest in the lead character Ratan Khatri, stating that it is a role he would have liked to portray. He also noted that he has been hearing strong word-of-mouth about the series and plans to watch it soon.
Vicky Kaushal also reacted on social media, describing filmmaker Nagraj Manjule as one of his favourites and adding that the show is on his watchlist.
Filmmaker Karan Johar termed the series “the perfect binge,” urging audiences not to miss it while congratulating the entire cast and crew.
Directed by Nagraj Manjule and created by Abhay Koranne, the series features an ensemble cast including Vijay Varma, Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat and Gulshan Grover.
Set between 1964 and 1975, Matka King follows the journey of Brij Bhatti, a cotton trader who ventures into launching a gambling network that evolves into a parallel economy, reflecting the socio-economic shifts of early independent India.
Since its release, the series has been trending across platforms, gaining both audience traction and industry recognition.
