Examiner Bureau | Jammu:

Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress came face to face in Jammu on Wednesday during protests over the Women’s Reservation issue, leading to heightened tensions in the area.

The situation turned tense as both groups raised slogans and levelled sharp allegations against each other. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers, with barricades erected to prevent any escalation and maintain law and order.

Congress workers accused the BJP of misleading the public, asserting that the Women’s Reservation Bill had already been passed in 2023. They claimed that the current controversy was being misrepresented, adding that the legislation which failed to progress was related to delimitation and not women’s reservation.

In response, BJP protesters alleged that the Congress was undermining efforts aimed at enhancing women’s representation and hurting the sentiments of women across the country.

The protest witnessed heated exchanges between the two sides before police intervened to keep them apart and restore calm. Authorities maintained a strict vigil in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
