Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday positioned the Union Territory as a promising destination for higher education, inviting leading institutions to invest under the newly enacted J&K Private Universities Act.

Interacting with a delegation of education sector representatives in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister said the legislation has opened up significant opportunities for reputed institutions to establish campuses in Jammu and Kashmir and contribute to the development of a modern, inclusive, and globally competitive academic ecosystem.

The J&K Private Universities Bill, passed during the recent Budget Session of the Legislative Assembly and subsequently approved by the Lieutenant Governor, is being seen as a landmark reform in the region’s higher education sector.

Abdullah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a transparent and investor-friendly environment to facilitate quality investments in education. He said the initiative aims to position Jammu and Kashmir as a vibrant academic hub capable of attracting students, researchers, and scholarly collaborations from across India and abroad.

Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Tanvir Sadiq, senior officials, and representatives from the education sector were also present during the interaction.
