PoK Resident, Uri Woman Detained Near LoC in Baramulla; Probe Underway

Security forces also apprehend former Territorial Army personnel allegedly attempting to cross the Line of Control

Security forces have detained a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and a woman from Uri near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Sunday.

According to reports, the PoK resident has been identified as Zeeshan Ahmad Mir, son of Lal Din Mir and a resident of Muzaffarabad. He was apprehended by the Army’s 12 Grenadiers unit in the Silikote area of Uri.

The woman detained along with him has been identified as Iram Bano, daughter of Abdul Majeed Mir and a resident of Tilawari in Uri.

Preliminary reports suggest the duo may have been known to each other, though officials have not confirmed the nature of their relationship. Both are currently in Army custody and are being questioned to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged cross-border movement.

In a separate incident in the same sector, security forces also apprehended a former Territorial Army personnel who was allegedly attempting to cross the LoC.

Officials said investigations are underway in both cases and further details are awaited.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
