Examiner News Desk | Srinagar:

Activist and education reform advocate Sonam Wangchuk on Tuesday announced that he would join a proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 6 if no action is taken by June 5 on demands raised by the Cockroach Janta Party, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Wangchuk made the announcement through posts on social media platforms X and Instagram, stating that he had held discussions with the organisation’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, and reviewed information and concerns shared by the group before extending his conditional support to the demonstration.

In a video message, Wangchuk said his decision was motivated by broader concerns about the state of education in India rather than any single examination-related issue. While discussions surrounding the protest have referenced examinations such as NEET, CUET and CBSE board processes, he said the matter reflected deeper systemic challenges within the education sector.

Emphasising the need for meaningful reforms, Wangchuk highlighted concerns related to learning outcomes, particularly in government schools and rural areas. Drawing on decades of experience working on education initiatives in remote regions, he pointed to persistent gaps in infrastructure, teaching quality and policy implementation.

The Cockroach Janta Party, which describes itself as a youth-driven and satirical movement, has been campaigning primarily through digital platforms on issues related to education governance and examination systems. The organisation has said the June 6 protest will be peaceful and open to individuals who share similar concerns.
