Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Sunday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and held detailed discussions on a range of issues concerning the Union Territory, including security, development and the prevailing political situation.

During the meeting, Sharma apprised the Home Minister of key concerns emerging from the ground and highlighted public expectations related to peace, development and effective governance in Jammu and Kashmir.

The discussions also covered the overall security environment, law and order situation, ongoing developmental initiatives and efforts aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and grassroots governance across the Union Territory.

According to officials, Amit Shah gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace, enhancing security and accelerating development in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Home Minister assured continued support from the Centre for the welfare and progress of the people of the Union Territory and stressed the need to consolidate the gains achieved in recent years.

Sharma, who also serves as a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reaffirmed his party’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and inclusive development in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the region has witnessed significant progress under the current leadership at the Centre and emphasised the need to ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society.

The meeting underscored the continued engagement between the Union Government and Jammu and Kashmir’s political leadership on matters relating to governance, security and socio-economic development.
