Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was suspended from both Jammu and Srinagar on Wednesday morning after persistent rainfall triggered mudslides and shooting stones at multiple locations, rendering the strategic route unsafe for vehicular movement.
According to Traffic Police officials, the highway was closed to all traffic at around 9:30 a.m. as continuous heavy rainfall affected the entire stretch. Several vulnerable locations witnessed landslides and falling rocks, posing a significant risk to commuters.
The closure comes amid widespread adverse weather conditions across parts of Jammu and Kashmir, which have disrupted road connectivity and heightened the threat of further landslides along the national highway.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid travelling on NH-44 until weather conditions improve and the road is cleared and declared safe for traffic.
The Traffic Police has also urged passengers and transporters to check the latest highway status through its official social media platforms or by contacting the respective Traffic Control Units (TCUs) before planning their journey.
