Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir, to assess the prevailing security situation and review preparedness for forthcoming events across the Valley.
The meeting brought together senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies and other security organisations. Among those present were the Inspectors General of the BSF and CRPF, senior officers of the CID, SSB, ITBP, RPF, Traffic Police, Railways, Security Wing and representatives of the Army, along with all Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of Kashmir.
At the outset, officers briefed the IGP on the security scenario in their respective jurisdictions. The meeting included a comprehensive review of recent security developments, emerging challenges and measures being implemented to effectively address potential threats.
Emphasising the need for constant preparedness, Birdi directed officers to regularly review and strengthen existing security arrangements while devising robust counter-insurgency strategies to effectively deal with evolving challenges. He stressed the importance of seamless coordination among all security agencies to maintain a proactive and integrated security grid across the Valley.
The IGP also reviewed security arrangements for the protection of national highways, railway tracks and railway stations. He instructed officers to further reinforce security deployments through dynamic checkpoints (nakas), increased area domination and intensified foot patrolling, particularly during night hours, at vulnerable locations and along inter-district boundaries.
Highlighting the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure and vulnerable sections of society, Birdi directed district police chiefs to adopt all necessary preventive measures, intensify surveillance in sensitive areas and ensure effective area domination to thwart any attempts aimed at disturbing peace or targeting civilians.
He further instructed officers to maintain strict vigilance against anti-national and anti-social elements, strengthen intelligence-based operations and closely monitor social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation, rumours and malicious content that could adversely affect public order, safety and communal harmony.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintaining heightened vigilance, strengthening inter-agency coordination and ensuring the effective implementation of security measures to preserve peace, stability and public safety across Kashmir.
