The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday registered a case against a former Patwari in Kishtwar district for allegedly demanding Rs 5 lakh in bribe and accepting Rs 3 lakh through cheque in return for issuing a Fard, an official spokesperson said.
According to the ACB, FIR No. 02/2026 has been registered at Police Station ACB Doda under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended, against Mohd Arif Mir, the then Patwari of Patwar Halqa Trigam in Kishtwar.
The case was registered following a verification conducted by the ACB DKR Jammu into allegations that Mir, while serving as a public servant, allegedly misused his official position by demanding Rs 5 lakh from a complainant for issuance of a Fard.
The accused allegedly accepted Rs 3 lakh through cheque as illegal gratification, following which the Fard was issued, the ACB spokesperson said.
As part of the investigation, the ACB obtained a search warrant from the competent court and conducted a search at the residential premises of the accused at Malipeth, near Grid Station, Kishtwar.
The search was carried out in the presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses, the spokesperson said.
The ACB said further investigation into the case is underway.
