Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached a residential property valued at Rs 16.77 lakh in Shopian district, alleging that it was acquired using proceeds generated from illegal drug trafficking.
The property belongs to Hilal Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Ahmad Dar, a resident of Vehil in Shopian, police said on Saturday.
According to police, the action was taken in connection with FIR No. 80/2024, registered at Police Station Shopian. The property was identified during the investigation as an asset allegedly acquired from proceeds of the illegal trade in narcotics.
Police said the attachment proceedings were carried out in the presence of a police team, an Executive Magistrate, the local Lambardar and Chowkidar, in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure.
The action is part of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s continuing crackdown on narcotics-related activities, with authorities increasingly focusing not only on individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking but also on properties and other assets suspected to have been acquired through illicit proceeds.
Police said such financial and property-related action is intended to disrupt the economic networks supporting the illegal narcotics trade and deter the use of proceeds from drug-related activities for acquiring assets.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to taking strict legal action against those involved in the illegal drug trade and against assets found to have been generated through unlawful activities.
