Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday announced that it would hold peaceful demonstrations outside Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offices in Srinagar and Jammu on Wednesday, demanding accountability from the Union Government over commitments made in Parliament and before the Supreme Court of India.

In a statement shared through its official social media handle, the NC said the demonstrations would highlight what it described as several key issues concerning the people of Jammu and Kashmir that remain unresolved.

The party said its demands include constitutional guarantees, restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, clearance of the reservation file and justice for the people of the Union Territory.

“The mandate of the people of Jammu & Kashmir is not a blank cheque. It must be respected, not taken for granted,” the NC said.

The party maintained that the proposed demonstrations would remain peaceful and would seek accountability for commitments made by the Union Government in Parliament and before the Supreme Court.

The announcement comes amid the NC’s continued campaign for the restoration of statehood and greater constitutional and institutional safeguards for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The demonstrations are scheduled to be held outside BJP headquarters in Srinagar and Jammu on Wednesday.
