Examiner Bureau | Katra:

A fire partially damaged a helipad terminal in Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine atop the Trikuta Hills in Reasi district, early Sunday, officials said.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

According to officials, the fire broke out at around 3.15 am, apparently due to a short circuit. Staff, security personnel and teams from Fire and Emergency Services jointly brought the blaze under control within about 30 minutes.

The terminal, an important transit point for pilgrims travelling to the shrine, was closed at the time of the incident, officials said.

They said some computers installed at the ticket counter, along with a coffee shop, were damaged in the fire.

The extent of the damage is being assessed, while further details are awaited.
