Military chiefs from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan are set to hold an urgent meeting in Riyadh amid heightened regional tensions following recent Houthi attacks on Saudi territory.
The planned talks come as regional governments assess the security situation and the risks of further escalation linked to the ongoing conflict in Yemen and wider tensions across the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reportedly presented the United States with a seven-day roadmap aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global energy and commercial shipping.
The reported proposal comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the strategic waterway, through which a significant share of the world’s oil and gas shipments passes.
In another development, Israeli forces were reported to have advanced into the Wadi al-Ruqqad area in the western countryside of Syria’s Daraa province, with troops reportedly firing warning shots.
The developments came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly.
At the beginning of his speech, dozens of diplomats reportedly walked out of the assembly hall. Netanyahu defended Israel’s military action against Iran, saying that striking Iranian nuclear facilities had been “one of the easiest decisions” he had made as prime minister.
