Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated BJP candidates and party workers following the party’s victories in by-elections in West Bengal and Assam, saying the results reflected public support for the BJP-NDA’s governance agenda.

In a post on X, Modi thanked voters for their continued support and congratulated the winning candidates, while praising party workers for their efforts during the elections.

“Gratitude to the people for their continuous blessings!” the Prime Minister said, referring to the results in Nagaon in Assam and Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal.

Modi said the outcome demonstrated what he described as a “deep-rooted connect with the good governance agenda of BJP-NDA”.

“I congratulate the victorious BJP candidates and also applaud the hardwork of our Party Karyakartas,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the BJP’s National Democratic Alliance ally, the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), on its victory in the Thattanchavady constituency in Puducherry. AINRC candidate Ashok Anand secured 13,358 votes, winning by a margin of 8,482 votes.

Modi said the mandate would strengthen the alliance’s efforts to work for public welfare and fulfil people’s aspirations.

“This mandate will give us added strength as we work tirelessly for the welfare of the people and to fulfil their aspirations for a brighter and more prosperous future,” he said.

In West Bengal, the BJP retained Nandigram with a record victory margin and won Rejinagar, a constituency with a sizeable minority population, according to the results cited in the report.

In Assam’s Nagaon, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma secured 6,87,110 votes and won by a margin of 1,66,134 votes.

The results from Nagaon, Nandigram and Rejinagar formed the basis of Modi’s message congratulating the party’s candidates and workers. His remarks also underscored the BJP-NDA’s stated focus on public welfare and development following the by-election results.
