Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday paid solemn tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, remembering their courage, dedication and patriotism on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.

In his message, the Lieutenant Governor expressed deep gratitude and respect for the police martyrs and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to their families. He also extended his prayers and best wishes for the health and well-being of the bereaved families, stressing that the nation has a responsibility to honour their sacrifices through meaningful support and care.

“No honour or assistance can compensate a family for the pain of losing a loved one. Yet, it is the nation’s duty to honour their sacrifice not merely in words, but also through its conduct and responsibilities,” Sinha said, assuring the Jammu and Kashmir Police fraternity that every possible effort would continue to be made to ensure dignity, welfare and necessary assistance for the families of martyrs.

Highlighting the force’s legacy of courage and discipline, the Lieutenant Governor said the Jammu and Kashmir Police had rendered distinguished service under challenging circumstances, from maintaining law and order and combating terrorism to assisting people during emergencies and natural disasters.

He noted that thousands of police personnel had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism, describing their courage and commitment as a source of inspiration for police forces across the country.

“The nation will never forget the contribution of immortal martyrs, who dedicated everything to the honour, dignity and glory of the Tricolour,” he said.

Sinha observed that the police uniform symbolised service, responsibility and sacrifice, adding that the true measure of policing lay in protecting citizens, ensuring justice and standing by society during times of crisis.

Referring to the security challenges faced by the country since Independence, he said the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces had played a vital role in safeguarding national security and territorial integrity.

He emphasised that peace, stability and development in Jammu and Kashmir were crucial to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation, adding that the responsibility for ensuring these objectives rested significantly with the security forces.

Reaffirming the Government of India’s commitment to peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor called upon citizens to uphold unity, communal harmony and mutual trust while remaining vigilant against elements seeking to disturb peace and stability.

He asserted that efforts to eliminate terrorism and its support networks would continue, warning those aiding terrorist activities that they would be identified and brought to justice under the law.

The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the need to strengthen measures to prevent crimes against women and children, protect vulnerable sections of society and ensure timely justice for victims. He called for regular reviews of existing mechanisms to make the prevention and investigation of such crimes more effective.

Emphasising the need for a collective commitment to a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha said combating drug trafficking, narco-terrorism and their support networks must remain a priority.

He commended the officers and personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces for their courage, dedication and spirit of service, wishing them success in their missions, safety and a bright future.
