Four people were killed in an explosion during the alleged illegal manufacture of firecrackers in Bihar’s Siwan district on Friday, prompting police to suspend two officials over suspected negligence.
The blast occurred in Alampur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Jamo Bazar police station. According to Siwan Police, the explosion took place while firecrackers were allegedly being manufactured illegally at the site.
Following the incident, a medical team was dispatched to the spot, where authorities initially confirmed the deaths of three people. The death toll subsequently rose to four.
Taking cognisance of the incident, the Siwan Superintendent of Police suspended Jamo Bazar police station in-charge and local chowkidar Chandrika Manjhi over alleged negligence.
Police have registered an FIR in connection with the explosion and constituted a special team to investigate the incident and examine the circumstances surrounding the blast.
The investigation will focus on how illegal firecracker manufacturing was being carried out at the location, whether prescribed safety measures were ignored and whether lapses in monitoring or enforcement contributed to the tragedy.
Investigators will also examine the role of those allegedly involved in the manufacturing activity and determine whether further action is warranted against any other persons or officials.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with unauthorised firecracker manufacturing, particularly at locations where explosives are handled without adequate safety arrangements.
Further details regarding the identities of the deceased and the precise circumstances leading to the explosion were awaited.
Police said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
