Farooq Abdullah, president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, on Friday emphasised the critical role of public participation in tackling drug abuse, stating that government efforts alone would not be sufficient to eliminate the menace.
“Merely saying that the government will stop drug abuse is not enough. Unless parents and society come forward to help, the problem cannot be solved. Public support is the most important factor—if people cooperate, drug abuse can be eradicated,” he said.
Commenting on upcoming elections in various states, Abdullah expressed confidence in regional political leadership. He said Mamata Banerjee is likely to retain power in West Bengal, while predicting a victory for the Congress in Kerala and for M. K. Stalin in Tamil Nadu.
His remarks come amid growing concern over substance abuse and ongoing political activity across several states.
