Agencies | Tehran:
Iran has formally submitted its response to the United States’ draft peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in West Asia, according to Iranian state media and sources in Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The response was reportedly conveyed to Pakistani mediators, who have been facilitating indirect diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington amid escalating regional tensions.
While Iranian state media confirmed the development, it did not disclose specific details of Tehran’s reply. However, diplomatic sources indicated that Pakistani mediators viewed the exchange as a “positive step toward de-escalation” in the region.
According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the latest round of diplomatic efforts is primarily focused on securing an end to the ongoing hostilities in West Asia.
Iranian officials are believed to have attached revised conditions to the proposal, including demands for long-term security guarantees, sanctions relief and a permanent cessation of hostilities involving Israel.
The diplomatic developments come against the backdrop of heightened military tensions in the Gulf region.
On Sunday, multiple drone-related incidents were reported across key maritime zones near Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, raising fresh concerns over regional security and commercial shipping routes.
According to regional defence reports, one drone struck a commercial freighter travelling from Abu Dhabi toward Qatar, causing a minor fire onboard. Qatar’s Defence Ministry confirmed the incident and stated that no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates claimed that its air defence systems intercepted two unmanned aerial vehicles allegedly launched from Iran, describing the incident as a direct attack on UAE territory.
The developments follow a warning issued by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday, cautioning that any attack on Iranian commercial vessels or tankers would invite retaliation against “enemy ships and American centres” in the Middle East.
The warning came a day after reports emerged that a US fighter jet had disabled two Iranian-flagged tankers in the Gulf of Oman to prevent them from proceeding toward Iranian waters.
The latest exchange of diplomatic proposals, coupled with rising military activity in the Gulf, has intensified global concerns over maritime security, regional stability and the risk of a wider confrontation in West Asia.
