Examiner Bureau | Ganderbal:

Police in Ganderbal have foiled an alleged attempt to fraudulently facilitate services related to the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and arrested a man accused of impersonation and cheating in the Sonamarg area.

According to officials, Police Station Sonamarg received credible information on May 27, 2026, that a suspect identified as Mohd Ayob Jara, son of Abdul Rehman Jara and a resident of Androola, Poonch, was operating in the Domail area while falsely presenting himself as a government employee associated with the Domail axis of the Shri Amarnath Cave route.

The accused allegedly approached vendors and service providers visiting the area and claimed he could facilitate their participation and provide assistance in securing Yatra-related services in exchange for money.

Acting on the information, police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Sonamarg and launched an investigation.

Following sustained efforts, police apprehended the accused on the evening of June 3, 2026. He has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the alleged fraud and identify any potential victims or accomplices.

Police have urged the public, particularly those associated with the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, to remain vigilant and avoid dealing with unauthorised individuals claiming to offer official assistance or facilitation services.
