A suspected Over Ground Worker (OGW) was detained by police after the Facial Recognition System (FRS) generated an alert at the X-ray screening point in Nunwan, Pahalgam, during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, officials said on Monday.

According to police, the individual was identified as Faisal Muzaffar, son of Muzaffar Ahmad and a resident of Babhara village in Pulwama district. Acting on the alert generated by the Facial Recognition System, security personnel intercepted and detained him for verification and further legal proceedings.

Police said the incident highlights the effectiveness of the technology-driven security network deployed for the annual pilgrimage, with advanced surveillance systems playing a crucial role in identifying and tracking persons of security interest.

The Facial Recognition System has been installed as part of the enhanced security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra to strengthen surveillance and ensure the safety and security of pilgrims.

Officials said comprehensive security measures remain in place along the Yatra route and appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies to ensure the smooth, safe and peaceful conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

Police have not disclosed further details regarding the individual’s alleged activities, and verification and investigation are underway.
