Fresh incidents of shooting stones, mudslides and landslides were reported at several vulnerable locations along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in Udhampur and Ramban districts on Friday following continuous rainfall, disrupting traffic and posing a serious risk to commuters.
Officials said heavy rainfall since the early hours of Friday triggered fresh slides at multiple stretches of the highway, dislodging rocks, boulders and mud onto the road and affecting the smooth movement of vehicles.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been informed, and road clearance teams equipped with heavy machinery have been deployed to the affected sites to remove debris and restore traffic at the earliest, officials said.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on the highway until weather conditions improve and restoration work is completed. Travellers have also been urged to check official traffic advisories before undertaking journeys on NH-44.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation as intermittent rainfall continues across the region. Officials warned that further incidents of shooting stones and landslides remain possible at vulnerable stretches of the highway and appealed to motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic advisories.
