The Rajouri district administration has initiated the relocation of the Deputy Commissioner’s office after the existing building was declared unsafe due to structural damage caused by continuous heavy rainfall and recent flash floods.
Officials said the building had developed minor cracks earlier, but the latest spell of intense rainfall and flash floods significantly aggravated the damage, prompting an immediate technical inspection.
A team from the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) Department conducted a detailed structural assessment and declared the building unsafe for occupation.
According to the Superintendent Engineer, persistent heavy rainfall and flash floods had adversely affected the structural stability of the building, leading to the widening of existing cracks. The inspection concluded that the premises were no longer suitable for regular use.
Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma said the safety of government employees and members of the public remained the administration’s foremost priority. He said the process of relocating staff and shifting official records, particularly those housed on the ground floor, had already begun, with an alternate building identified to accommodate the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Sharma said he would continue operating from the existing office to supervise the relocation and ensure the safe transfer of records, equipment and other essential documents. He added that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had been directed to provide temporary structural support to the building to facilitate a safe and orderly shifting process.
The district administration assured the public that government services and official work would continue without disruption during the transition. It said all necessary arrangements were being made to ensure the smooth functioning of the Deputy Commissioner’s office from its new premises.
