Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Monday reviewed ongoing counter-terrorism operations and the overall security situation in the border district of Poonch, with particular focus on the activities and presence of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants.
Prabhat, accompanied by Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Tejinder Singh, is on a day-long visit to Poonch to assess the security situation and review measures being taken to counter militant activities in the region.
During the visit, the DGP chaired a high-level security review meeting at the District Police Office, Poonch. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajouri-Poonch Range, Sandeep Wazir, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Shafqat Hussain, along with other senior officers, attended the meeting.
Officials said the meeting reviewed the prevailing operational situation, existing security arrangements and the progress of ongoing efforts to track and neutralise militants operating in the district.
The discussions also focused on coordination among various security forces, area domination measures and surveillance mechanisms aimed at preventing attempts to disrupt peace and security in Poonch.
The security grid along the border was also reviewed, with particular emphasis on strengthening vigilance and preventing infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control, officials said.
The DGP was briefed on the operational challenges in the border areas and measures being undertaken by the security agencies to maintain heightened surveillance and respond effectively to emerging threats.
The visit comes amid continued security concerns along the Jammu region’s border districts, where security forces remain focused on preventing infiltration and countering militant networks.
Officials said coordination among the police, Army and other security agencies remains central to maintaining security and ensuring peace in the district.
