The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has filed a chargesheet against two persons in connection with an alleged fraudulent land deal involving Rs 16.50 lakh, officials said.
The chargesheet was presented before the Special Municipal Mobile Magistrate, Jammu, in connection with FIR No. 21/2025, registered at Police Station Crime Branch EOW Jammu under Sections 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused have been identified as Rahul Dasgotra and Sneha Verma.
According to the case, a complaint was lodged by Dr Anjan Bhola, who alleged that Dasgotra represented himself as the owner of land at Patyari (Bhatyari) village in Bishnah and entered into an agreement with him for the sale of one kanal of land for Rs 16.50 lakh.
During the investigation, the Crime Branch examined the notarised agreement to sell dated June 20, 2023, along with relevant bank and revenue records pertaining to the transaction.
The investigation found that the complainant allegedly transferred Rs 10 lakh and Rs 6.50 lakh in two instalments to a Canara Bank account maintained in the name of Om Sai Construction, a firm owned by Sneha Verma, wife of Dasgotra, officials said.
The Crime Branch further said that verification of revenue records obtained from the Tehsildar, Bishnah, revealed that Khasra No. 1152 min, which was cited in connection with the transaction, did not exist in Patyari (Bhatyari) village.
Based on the investigation, the agency said sufficient material was found against both accused and the chargesheet was subsequently filed before the competent court for adjudication.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Dy SP Goldy Sharma.
SSP Crime Branch EOW Jammu Faisal Qureshi urged members of the public to exercise due caution while entering into property and financial transactions and advised them to verify relevant ownership and revenue records before finalising deals.
He also urged people to report suspected cases of property or financial fraud to the Crime Branch.
The allegations against the accused have not been proved in court and remain subject to judicial determination.
