Senior CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Monday made a strong appeal to all members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to unite across party lines and collectively press the Central Government for the immediate restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Intervening on the floor of the House amid sustained slogan-raising by opposition BJP members, Tarigami emphasized that statehood remains a shared regional priority that transcends party politics.
Tarigami reminded the Assembly that the Government of India has repeatedly pledged on public and parliamentary platforms to restore full statehood to J&K. He urged all elected representatives to present a united front to ensure those commitments are fulfilled without further delay.
Expressing concern over house disruptions, Tarigami underscored that Question Hour is a cornerstone of legislative accountability. He noted that frequent interruptions deny lawmakers their primary mechanism to question the executive and raise critical public grievances.
Depriving legislators of Question Hour, Tarigami cautioned, ultimate weakens public trust and undermines the core constitutional duty of the Assembly to hold the government accountable to the people.
