Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Finance Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday attended the 57th meeting of the GST Council in New Delhi, where key issues relating to the Goods and Services Tax (GST), revenue mobilisation and the fiscal position of States and Union Territories were discussed.
The meeting was chaired by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and attended by Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers from across the country, along with senior officials of the Union Finance Ministry.
The Council held detailed deliberations on various GST-related matters, with discussions focusing on strengthening the fiscal capacity of States and Union Territories, improving revenue mobilisation and promoting balanced fiscal federalism.
Omar Abdullah attended the meeting in his capacity as Finance Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and expressed confidence that the decisions taken by the Council would help improve the Union Territory’s fiscal position.
He said the outcomes of the meeting would also support economic growth, accelerate developmental activities and contribute to public welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.
