Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident in an alleged cheque fraud case involving a business liability of Rs 35 lakh.
The chargesheet has been presented before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Pulwama, in connection with FIR No. 44/2026, registered under Sections 318(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Yatoo, son of Ali Mohammad Yatoo, a resident of Chanpora, Rajpora, Pulwama.
According to the investigation, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the complainant and the accused were business partners. During the settlement of their accounts, an outstanding liability of Rs 35 lakh was reportedly found against the accused.
The complainant alleged that the accused issued a cheque to clear the outstanding amount. However, the cheque was dishonoured by the bank after it was found to have been drawn in the name of the accused’s father, who had died two years earlier, and allegedly carried the accused’s own signatures.
The EOW stated that the allegations were substantiated during the investigation and the charges against the accused were found to be established.
The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad, following which the chargesheet was submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.
Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, advised people to maintain proper records of business transactions, verify financial instruments and remain vigilant against fraudulent practices to safeguard their money.
