Agencies | Washington: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday indicated that deploying American ground forces in Iran may not be necessary, even as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate following recent attacks in the Middle East.

Trump issued a stern warning to Iran after drones reportedly struck the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and American soldiers were killed in related hostilities.

“You will soon find out Washington’s response to the attack on its embassy in Riyadh and to the killing of American soldiers,” Trump said in an interview with NewsNation.

While underscoring that the United States would respond firmly, the President suggested that large-scale troop deployment might be avoidable. “I don’t think deploying ground forces will be necessary in Iran,” he said, signalling a calibrated but potentially forceful approach.

Following Saturday’s strikes on Iranian targets, Trump reiterated his long-held position on military engagement during remarks to the New York Post. “Every President says, ‘There will be no boots on the ground.’ I don’t say it. I say ‘probably don’t need them,’ [or] ‘if they were necessary,’” he stated, leaving open the possibility of escalation if circumstances demand.

When asked whether he was concerned about further attacks on US installations, Trump struck a pragmatic tone. “No, it’s a part of war. It’s part of war, whether people like it or not. That’s the way it is,” he said.

The remarks come amid rising geopolitical strain in the region, with Washington weighing its next steps while seeking to deter further aggression without triggering a prolonged ground conflict.
