A young man from Qazigund lost his life after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident at the Fruit and Vegetable Mandi in Ashajipora, sparking allegations of medical negligence at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and prompting demands for a thorough investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Mir, son of Late Abdul Rehman Mir and a resident of Yarhole Baihama, Qazigund. According to reports, he suffered grievous injuries in the accident and was immediately shifted to GMC Anantnag for advanced medical care.
However, the bereaved family has alleged that despite his critical condition, timely and adequate medical attention was not provided at the hospital. They claimed that delays and the absence of essential medical staff at crucial moments contributed to the deterioration of his condition, ultimately leading to his death.
“He was struggling for his life, but there was no immediate response. Had he received proper and timely treatment, he might have survived,” a family member alleged, while demanding strict action against those found responsible.
The family has called for a fair and transparent inquiry into the incident and urged authorities to examine the functioning of the hospital administration to fix accountability.
Responding to the allegations, Medical Superintendent of GMC Anantnag, Dr Arshad Hassan Siddiqie, assured that the matter would be investigated thoroughly and that appropriate action would be taken if any negligence is established.
The incident has also triggered concern among locals, who have raised questions over emergency healthcare services at the hospital and called for strengthening patient care systems and response mechanisms.
