A chilling account has emerged in the rape and murder of the 22-year-old daughter of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer in Delhi’s Amar Colony, with the accused reportedly showing no remorse during interrogation and claiming his sole motive was robbery.
The accused, identified as Rahul Meena, allegedly told investigators that the crime would not have occurred had he been given money. Referring to the victim as “Didi,” he stated that he had entered the residence intending to seek financial help.
According to police sources, Meena had previously worked for the family and was familiar with the household. He reportedly gained access to the residence by falsely claiming that the victim’s mother had called him to collect money.
At the time of the incident, the victim—an IIT graduate and a civil services aspirant—was alone in her room. Police said the accused demanded money, and when she refused, an argument ensued.
Investigators revealed that Meena then threatened her and launched a violent attack. He allegedly attempted to strangle the victim using a mobile phone charger cable, following which she lost consciousness. Police believe the sexual assault occurred during this period.
The accused is also reported to have struck the victim multiple times with a heavy object, causing fatal injuries. He then allegedly attempted to unlock a digital locker using her fingerprints. When unsuccessful, he broke open another lock using a screwdriver and fled with cash and valuables.
Meena was later arrested from a hotel in Dwarka, where he had been hiding. He was produced before a court in Delhi, which remanded him to judicial custody for further investigation.
Police said the case is being probed in detail, with efforts underway to establish the full sequence of events and gather forensic evidence.
