Examiner Bureau | Jammu:

In a landmark development for Jammu and Kashmir’s transport and tourism sectors, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will on Thursday flag off the 20-coach Vande Bharat Express between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar, establishing direct rail connectivity between the twin capitals of the Union Territory.

Officials confirmed that the inauguration will feature a symbolic simultaneous departure, with another Vande Bharat train leaving Srinagar for Jammu at the same time. Regular passenger services on the route are scheduled to begin from May 2, opening a new chapter in regional mobility.

The launch follows a successful trial run conducted earlier this week between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Jammu, where the train’s performance and safety systems were evaluated.

The introduction of the high-speed, fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat Express is expected to significantly reduce travel time, enhance passenger comfort, and boost tourism and economic activity across the region. The direct rail link is also seen as a major infrastructure milestone, improving connectivity between Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.

Authorities believe the service will provide a reliable and efficient alternative to road travel, particularly during adverse weather conditions, while further integrating the region into India’s expanding modern rail network.
