Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s firm and uncompromising response to terrorism, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to protecting its security and sovereignty.
Marking one year of the operation, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the armed forces for their “unparalleled courage, precision and resolve” in carrying out the mission.
In a post on X, Modi said, “A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during Operation Sindoor. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour.”
The Prime Minister said the operation reflected the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of India’s defence forces, while also highlighting the growing synergy among the Army, Air Force and other security agencies.
He further noted that the success of the operation underlined the benefits of India’s push towards self-reliance in the defence sector through indigenous capabilities and modern military preparedness.
“Today, a year later, we remain as steadfast as ever in our resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem,” Modi added.
Operation Sindoor was launched during the night of May 7–8 last year following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of them tourists.
The operation reportedly targeted multiple terrorist camps, launch pads and infrastructure located across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and other regions linked to terror networks.
Security officials had described the strikes as intelligence-driven and highly precise, involving the coordinated use of missiles, air power, drones and artillery systems. The targets were said to include facilities associated with terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
According to officials, the operation was designed to minimise collateral damage while delivering a strong message against cross-border terrorism and its supporting infrastructure.
The anniversary of Operation Sindoor is being observed as a tribute to the armed forces and a reminder of India’s continuing resolve to combat terrorism in all forms.
