The crescent moon marking the beginning of the holy month of Dhul Hijjah was sighted in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, Grand Mufti Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooq announced.
The Grand Mufti said testimonies regarding the sighting of the moon were received from Kargil and several parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
“As a result, the month of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH will commence from Monday, May 18, 2026,” he said.
He further announced that Eid-ul-Adha will be observed across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
Extending greetings to the people of the Union Territory, the Grand Mufti expressed hope that Eid-ul-Adha would bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to the region.
