An encounter broke out on Saturday between security forces and militants in the Gambhir Muglan area of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The gunfight erupted during a joint intelligence-based operation launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force following specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

According to officials, contact with the militants was established at around 11:30 in the morning during the search operation. The White Knight Corps, in a statement issued on social media platform X, confirmed that security forces came under contact during the operation in Gambhir Muglan.

Troops responded swiftly and in a calibrated manner, leading to an exchange of fire with the hiding militants.

Security forces have since laid a tight cordon around the area to block possible escape routes, while additional reinforcements have also been deployed to strengthen the operation.

Officials said the anti-terror operation was still underway at the time of the last reports. There were no immediate reports of casualties or arrests, and the exact number of militants trapped in the area has not yet been officially confirmed.

Further details are awaited as the operation continues in the forested terrain of Rajouri district.
