Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has convened a meeting of National Conference (NC) legislators and independent MLAs supporting the government on June 3 to deliberate on issues related to governance, public welfare and matters of collective importance.
In an invitation sent to the legislators, Abdullah stated that the meeting would serve as a platform to discuss key concerns affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to seek feedback from elected representatives on pressing public issues.
Besides NC legislators, the Chief Minister has also invited four independent MLAs who are extending support to the government. However, the six Congress MLAs backing the ruling alliance have not been invited to the meeting so far.
According to party sources, the meeting is expected to focus on challenges facing various constituencies across the Union Territory and assess the government’s response to public concerns.
An NC legislator, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Chief Minister intends to hear directly from MLAs about issues confronting their constituencies and the measures required to address them.
“The meeting is aimed at discussing the problems and aspirations of the people and reviewing matters that require the government’s attention,” the legislator said.
Sources within the party described the exercise as more significant than a routine legislative meeting, indicating that it could play an important role in shaping the government’s policy priorities in the coming months.
The development comes against the backdrop of recent political claims made by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, who alleged that several ruling party legislators were dissatisfied and could switch sides. Sharma has also claimed that the Omar Abdullah-led government may not complete its full term.
The ruling National Conference has not responded publicly to the opposition’s assertions, and no indication has emerged from within the alliance to suggest any immediate threat to the government’s stability.
Political observers believe the June 3 meeting could provide an opportunity for the Chief Minister to strengthen coordination with supporting legislators while addressing governance and development-related concerns across Jammu and Kashmir.
