Senior IPS Officer Vidhi Kumar Birdi Appointed CRPF Inspector General on Central Deputation

Presently serving as IGP Kashmir, the 2003-batch AGMUT cadre officer has been directed to assume charge at the Centre against an existing vacancy.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior IPS officer Vidhi Kumar Birdi as Inspector General (IG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on deputation.

According to an Office Memorandum issued by the MHA on June 1, 2026, Birdi, a 2003-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General in the CRPF against an existing vacancy. The appointment has been approved by the competent authority and will be governed by the standard terms and conditions applicable to central deputation.

The order states that Birdi will serve at Level-14 of the Pay Matrix and has been directed to assume charge of his new assignment at the Centre. The Ministry has also requested the concerned authorities to relieve him at the earliest to facilitate his joining.

Birdi is currently serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, and has held several key positions during his distinguished policing career. An engineering graduate with an MBA, he has served as SDPO Kothibagh Srinagar, SP City East Srinagar, SSP Kupwara, SSP Special Security Group (SSG), Jammu and Kashmir, DIG North Kashmir Range Baramulla, and DIG Central Kashmir Range Srinagar.

Notably, Birdi was serving as DIG Central Kashmir Range during the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, a period marked by significant security and administrative challenges in the region.
