Two soldiers were killed in an accidental grenade explosion at an Army camp in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred at a military camp in Kamalkote when a hand grenade accidentally detonated during the routine handover of equipment, officials said.
The explosion left two jawans critically injured. They were immediately evacuated to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Officials said inquest proceedings, as required under law, have been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A Defence spokesperson based in Srinagar said details of the incident were being gathered and that an official statement would be issued after receiving a report from the concerned authorities.
The accidental blast has prompted an internal review, while authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the explosion. (Inputs from Agencies)
