Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:
The Srinagar Police on Friday issued a public advisory ahead of Muharram processions, urging participants to observe the occasion with peace, dignity and discipline while strictly adhering to the guidelines issued by the administration.
The advisory appealed to the public to maintain communal harmony throughout the observance and comply with directions issued by the civil administration and police authorities. Participants have also been asked to cooperate with traffic police personnel and volunteers to ensure smooth movement, while keeping the processions confined to the designated routes and approved purposes.
The police further urged people to respect the religious sentiments and beliefs of all communities, safeguard public and government property, and maintain cleanliness during the observance.
Warning against activities that could disturb public order, the advisory prohibited any unlawful acts, provocative slogans, inflammatory speeches, or actions that may hurt religious sentiments. Participants have also been directed not to obstruct traffic or pedestrian movement, damage or deface public property, or display provocative banners, posters, placards, or flags.
The advisory also cautioned against disrespecting the National Flag or displaying or glorifying the flags or symbols of any country, organisation, or group during the processions. It further warned against engaging in any activity detrimental to the integrity, sovereignty, and unity of the nation.
Srinagar Police appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to ensure the peaceful, dignified, and orderly observance of Muharram across the city.
